Chomsky: his ideas. A 1978 BBC interview (part 2 of 5)

Dear readers of Glottodiversity, in this post I propose a rare early talk with Noam Chomsky. The whole video has been cut in five parts in order to be more easily watchable.

A young Chomsky interviewed on BBC by Bryan Magee, known to the British public for his TV series, where he offered talks with the major Anglo-American philosophers.

This interview is a broadcast of 1978. At that time Chomsky had already published The Sound Patterns of English (1968), Language and Mind (1968), Studies on Semantics in Generative Grammar (1972), The Logical Structure of the Linguistic Theory (1975), Reflections on Language (1975), Essays on Form and Interpretation (1977). The fundamental Pisa lectures, published as Lectures on Government and Biding (1981) were still to be hold. In this interview, then, his linguistic ideas date back to the pre-GB period.

By the way, after having watched to this, I can’t avoid to compare these ’70s talk shows with ours and complain the misery of our present day Italian television.
